Get Smart event

12th October we are running another of our successful Get Smart events that will demonstrate all the latest technology, apps, games and programs that help dyslexic children and young people.

This year we have three inspirational speakers

Darren Williams – Success despite dyslexia

Sarah Bisson – Mental Health and Dyslexia

Joanne Chambers – How UNI can be made easier for dyslexics.

This is a FREE event so come along and find out about our Saturday Schools in Maryport, Seascale and Carlisle and talk to our experts and teachers.

Starts at 2.30  finishes at 4.30

AGM

You are welcome to come along to our AGM being held at the Chase Hotel in Whitehaven, on Tuesday 6th November starting at 7pm.

There will be chips and Sandwiches and tea and coffee for our visitors.

Please come along to find out how the WCDA is working in the community to help children and adults with reading and writing difficulties.

We are run by a few volunteers who are dedicated to raising the awareness of Dyslexia and the issues that when left undiagnosed causes lots of problems.

Find out how you can get involved with a great bunch of people, and find out about latest technology and games that are proving extremely helpful for dyslexics.

FREE to attend.

Drop-in Session 2nd October

Pop into our next Drop-In Session for parents and children to find about new learning aids and try technology that is helping improve reading and writing skills.

Find out our Saturday Schools that provide one-to-one tuition for children struggling with reading and writing.

No need to book, just pop into Lakes Collage at Workington from 7pm to chat to our experts who provide great advice and support.

The Session finishes at 8.30pm.

Get Smart Tech event 7th July

7th July we are running one of successful Technology events at St Bees School Management Centre.  It starts at 10.15am, until 12.30.  Come along and find out about the best technology to help dyslexics read and write.

There will be experts to advise you and discuss your particular issues with dyslexia.  You will be able to try out some of the technology to see if it works for you.

Find out about our Saturday Schools in Maryport and Seascale that run one2one teacher sessions for children struggling with reading and writing.

The event is FREE and there will be tea, coffee and squash and cakes for refreshments.

Ample parking at the school.

We will also be running an offer to join WCDA as a member for just £12 on the day.  For this you will receive the Dyslexia Contact Magazine and receive information on all our events.

Pop in for a chat with our experts and try out games and apps that are excellent learning aids.

Dyslexia Week

From the 2nd – 8th October is National Dyslexia Week, and we at the West Cumbria Dyslexia Association will be out and about spreading the word.

Tuesday 3rd October we are holding a Drop-In session for anyone to come along to find out more information about how to support your child with dyslexia.

Starts at 6.30 at Lakes Collage Lillyhall, in Workington.

Thursday 5th October we will be stationed in United Utilities Call Centre all day talking to everyone and raising funds.

 

Saturday 7th October we will be doing a Bag Pack day at Sainsbury’s in Cockermouth, please say hello.

 

Any donations are gratefully received and will help us support our Saturday Schools in Seascale and Maryport.

 

‘Get Smart’ Technology event 8th July

Last year our first Technology event was so successful that we are running another one on the 8th July at St Bees School in the Management Centre.

Come along and find out about computers, useful apps and even pens that speak to you along with other clever technology designed to aid with reading and writing for anyone with dyslexia or learning difficulties.

There will plenty of time to get hands on and try out apps and games to help you decide which one is best for your child.

Come along and get information on our Saturday Schools, technology facts, useful resources and chat to our experts.

We will be asking for a £2 donation.

We will be running a Drop-In evening at Lakes Collage in Workington for parents and children to find out about how technology and other learning aids are proving successful for dyslexics.

Come and chat to our experts who can guide you towards the right books, games, technology and classes.

We have qualified teachers who run our Saturday classes in Seascale and Maryport providing one-2-one teaching sessions.

2016 AGM All Welcome

1st of November we will be holding our AGM at Lakes College Lilly Hall, Workington startig at 7pm  All welcome.

Our Speaker this year is Ben Stevenson who is the Assistant Principal at University Technical College from Energy Coast UTC.  He will be talking about Introducing the Energy Coast UTC promoting vocational education, communication and a hands on approach to learning.

There will be light refreshments served.  Come and meet our team and find out how we can help you and your child through school and college.

Our Saturday School in Seascale at Shackles Off are holding an Open Morning for parents to come along and find out how we can help your child with spelling, reading and writing.  We have qualified teachers who work one to one with children in a small class environment.
